Hijinio Reynoso Sr. Memorial Scholarship

Hijinio Reynoso Sr.png

Born and raised in Guadalajarita, Zacatecas, Mexico, Hijinio was taught from a young age the value of hard work. In 1962, Hijinio and his family settled in the rich agricultural farmlands of Woodlake, California where he worked at various farms as a contract laborer; picking oranges, olives, peaches, grapes and many other produce.

In the late 1960's, Hijinio gave back to his community through his involvement with outreach programs, such as "La Esperanza", which were dedicated to the improvement of his beloved Woodlake. His involvement in "La Esperanza" resulted in the city's first community health clinic, which was located in the current location of Kaweah Delta Health Clinic.

Despite the fact that he himself had never had any type of formal education, he taught himself to read and write. Throughout his life he could be seen reading history books, as well as Reader’s Digest. Education was of utmost importance to him because he knew it was the key to anybody’s success. He believed that everything was possible when you worked hard and armed yourself with knowledge.

He passed away in July of 2021 at the age of 94. He will be greatly missed by his family. His children and grandchildren pursued careers in law enforcement, software engineering, electrical engineering, marketing, real estate, travel, education, epidemiology, immigration law, diversity and inclusion, mechanical engineering, construction, and automotive technology.

Criteria: Preference given to student with a farm labor background, immigrant family and must have financial need.
