Ron Robinson, WHS 1980

As the son of a legendary coach, Ron Robinson, was always going to be an athlete. Ron grew up listening to “our team does this” and “the other team does that” and “when they do that, we do this”.  That’s how a coach thinks.  Ron was brought up to think like a coach. Along with a coach’s mind, Ron’s size, strength, athletic ability, and leadership took Woodlake to great success while he was a Tiger.  He earned league, area and state awards while competing for Woodlake High School.  He was not only a great competitor but also a great teammate.

After graduating from high school, baseball became his career, when in 1980 he was selected by the Cincinnati Reds. He made his debut in the major leagues in August of 1984. After nine seasons of major league pitching, he retired from baseball in 1992 due to a bad pitching elbow.  He returned to the Valley along with his wife Becky and their three children, Ronnie, Ryan, and Megan.

Ron continues to live in the area and supports Woodlake organizations and sports along with giving private baseball lessons to young prospective athletes.  Ron’s dad, Leo Robinson, was in the first class of inductees to the Woodlake Hall of Fame along with Frank Ainley and  Louise Achenbach. They contributed to the reason why Ron grew up like a coach. Along with that first class in 2017, Ron Robinson will now be called a Woodlake High School Hall of Famer.
