Darcie Peña Memorial Scholarship for Early Childhood Education

A scholarship has been established in memory of Darcie Pena (Class of 2007) for a Woodlake High School senior who will attend college for early childhood education.

Darcie always knew that she wanted to work with small children and majored in early childhood education at California State University Channel Islands, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree and completing her credential in early childhood education in 2012.  Darcie had just begun her life’s work with kids, when, in 2013, she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.   Darcie fought like the warrior she was for 7 years, maintaining her “positive vibe” that was an inspiration to all.  Darcie was her funny, helpful, kind, determined self, right to the end of her life in December 2020.  The scholarship has been established to carry on her legacy and love for small children.

Criteria: A student exhibiting a positive, good natured attitude or pursuing a college education in Early Childhood Studies.
